BUK STUDENT DEVELOPS MOBILE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

. . No comments:

A 400-level student of the Department of Islamic Studies and Shari’a, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Umar Abdullahi Bagwai, has developed mobile application software called Discover BUK.

Bagwai said the software was designed to run on smartphone, computer and other mobile devices.

He developed the mobile application about 18 months ago for use by members of the BUK community, adding that “Discover BUK Mobile Application” will run on three most widely known mobile operating system such as Android, IOS (Apple), and Blackberry OS 10.

Bagwai, who spoke during the occasion of send forth for the outgoing 2012/2013 BUK SUG (students union government) executives and ushering in the newly elected 2013/2014 executives, explained that he developed the first version of the application for the purpose of using it as a guide to students and visitors to BUK to enable them to identify various locations in the university.

He said that through the application, the university’s lecture theatres, restaurants, bus stops, religious centres, office blocks, etc, could easily be accessed.

Most students who spoke expressed their surprise over this historic exploit, saying that such a breakthrough ought to have been developed by students in computer science or computer engineering departments.

However, one of the students said that the fact that a student in the Department of Islamic Studies and Shari’a could achieve this rare feat has shown that it is not what you study in schools that matters, but how well one makes use of his God given talent.
