DELSU GETS NEW PRO-CHANCELLOR AND CHAIRMAN OF GOVERNING COUNCIL

   

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan (CON), on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 inaugurated the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University at the Government House, Asaba . He is Professor Sam Oyovbaire, a former Minister of Information, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This appointment became necessary following the resignation of the former Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Tony Elumelu.

In his post inauguration comments, the Governor noted with joy that the appointment of Professor Sam Oyovbaire is well-deserved. He further noted, that the appointment is symbolic in that it is putting a round peg in a round hole given the track records of the new Chairman both at the University of Benin and as a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Governor stressed that DELSU is the most peculiar State University in the country because of the multi-campus nature and its attendant challenges. He therefore, challenged Professor Sam Oyovbaire to bring to bear his wealth of experience to the Delta State University Administration.

His Excellency seized the opportunity to thank the Management of the University both past and present for their peaceful disposition towards the well-being of both staff and students. And most especially the judicious use of the scarce resources of the University which has resulted in an unprecedented infrastructural development of the University.
Responding, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, thanked the Executive Governor for finding him worthy of this appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Delta State University. He enthused that he is in a familiar terrain. He recalled with nostalgia how he championed the establishment of Faculty of the Social Sciences in DELSU. He promised to work with the other members of the Governing Council for the overall interests of the academic, non-teaching staff and students for the realization of the set goals and objectives by the founding fathers of the University.

We cannot but thank God for having this academic giant as Chairman at this point in time. He is happily married with children.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were members of the State Executive Council, some members of the State House of Assembly, other members of the University’s Governing Council, Principal Officers of the University, other staff and students.
