The Monthly Seminar Series of the Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Akoka. will hold on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 12 noon in the Julius Berger Lecture Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka.
The Seminar will feature a seasoned academic staff of the Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos, Dr. B. A. Sawyerr who will speak on NATURE-INSPIRED COMPUTATIONAL ALGORITHMS FOR SOLVING GLOBAL OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS.
The event is open to all academic staff, graduate students, final year students and other members of the community who are interested in the advancement of scientific knowledge.
Dr. Babatunde A. Sawyerr is a thorough bred alumnus of the University of Lagos where he obtained a First Degree (Hons.) in Microbiology (1990), Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (1994), Masters Degree in Computer Science (1997) and Doctorate Degree in Computer Science (2010). His research interests include design and development of Nature-Inspired Optimization Algorithms for both continuous and combinatorial optimization problems, application of computational intelligence methods to machine learning, knowledge discovery and data mining.
With over fifteen years experience in teaching and research, Dr. Sawyerr has supervised over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has also lectured briefly at Universite Nancy 2, Nancy, France and University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban, South Africa.
He has several academic publications in reputable international journals and has travelled to many countries to present his research work and findings. He is a member of the editorial board of International Journal on Mathematical Analysis and Optimization: Theory and Applications. He is a reviewer of Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, Elsevier and Journal of Applied Mathematics, Hindawi Publishing Corporation.
Dr. Sawyerr is a member of several learned and professional organizations including Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (1999), Special Interest Group (SIGEvo) Association for Computing Machinery (2000), Nigeria Computer Society (2002), Association for Computing Machinery (2002) and African Society for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (2004).
He is also a founding member of Machine Intelligence Research Group (MIRG), Department of Computer Sciences, UNILAG and Mathematical Analysis & Optimization Research Group (MANORG) – a multidisciplinary research group with members from Department of Mathematics and Department of Computer Sciences, Faculty of Science, UNILAG.
