The electioneering campaign in Nigeria is throwing up a lot of funny stuff with politicians and their managers trying to outdo one another in the area of creativity.
The trend of sharing food items like rice, milk, beverages and other edible items dates back to the second republic where politicians distributed such items.
Meanwhile, the stratagem of presenting bags of rice to hungry residents to lure them to vote might not be unconnected with the stomach infrastructure popularised by the Ekiti state governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, a development that was recently replicated by former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reportedly gave out bags of rice, salt, vegetable oil, T-shirts and cash to many residents of the state.
